Setting up eduroam on Linux

ℹ️Note: This guide was created using the Linux distribution Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS. Other Linux distributions and versions may look different, but the instructions should still work.

‼️Before you begin setting up the internet connection, you need to be connected to the internet.
ℹ️We recommend using the HSBO_Gast Wi-Fi network. If you are not yet connected to the HSBO_Gast Wi-Fi network, we also have a guide for this on our website.

☑️If you are connected to the HSBO_Gast Wi-Fi network, open a browser of your choice, go to https://cat.eduroam.org, and click the large blue button.

➡️Now download the eduroam file.

➡️Once you have done this, right-click the file and select Properties. This will show you the path where the file is located. You will need this path for the next step.

➡️You can now open the Terminal. Enter the following command:
python3 [path]/[filename]

ℹ️In this guide, [path] is /home/campus-it/Downloads and [filename] is eduroam-linux-Hochschule_Bochum.py.

‼️Important: Make sure you use the correct path for your device, as it may be different. The filename may also be different, but it should generally have a similar name to the one shown in this guide.

➡️The command will now launch the eduroam installation tool. Click “Next” and then “Yes”.

➡️You should then be prompted to enter your user credentials. First, enter your Hochschul username, followed by your initial password.

ℹ️This allows the system to verify whether you are authorized to use eduroam.

✅Once you have successfully entered your credentials, eduroam will be installed automatically. Once the installation is complete, you can use eduroam to access the internet.
